Budapest, Gyönyörű vagy (you are beautiful)!

As Chevalier d’Eon said (a very interesting French diplomat and spy, who belonged to the secret network of spies called “Secret du Roi”):

“With the time, everything is changing, and the world around, and there are only words that are left …”, so I continue my story and present (=leave) the words for you, my dear friends. Hello again!

My absence has been long here and I do realise it. And as always I have few reasons for that: it’s my creative flight in the world of art (recently designed a tattoo for a client), immersion in the language of love, that filled with flavor of fresh baguette, captivating cheese and lulling (or the opposite – rocking) wines, an exciting make-up course and simply laziness (yes, this happens to me sometimes)! Here’s a few reasons of the 1001 reasons for my absence and the mysterious silence, my dears.

So today-post is going to be about a truly fabulous city called Budapest which is the capital of Hungary. Frankly speaking, my ideas and expectations about the country and the city itself were not so great and I didn’t feel so much joy and excitement for going there. I don’t really know the reason of this feeling, maybe it came from the name of the city which didn’t sound amazing to me or maybe because I never really came across to the information about it. I think I was going there rather with a happy thought  to add a new point to my list “I was there, drank beer and mead that barely got my mustache wet” © A.Pushkin.

According to my plan (the travelling one) I had the only day to see Budapest. It was just an interjacent point of my chain of travels and wanderings in Europe.

Since my time in Milan (my previous stop) was also limited (I spent there only 3 days as you probably know from another post I wrote on the blog), I did not have time to prepare myself for Budapest. I didn’t manage to learn Hungarian and to read about the attractions and sightseeing there so, in general, I felt like an alien, who arrived in an uncharted area. Fortunately, at the airport, the first thing I noticed was a tourist office and asked all the questions I had and got a window into the world of Hungary, more precisely the map of Budapest with all the information about different tourist interests ad goodies narrated in the card itself. I asked the man in the office which underground station I needed in order to see the center of the city and decided to go there straight away after having a breakfast somewhere (the station I needed was called Ferenciek Tere, on the blue line), and then just walk around the city, absolutely aimlessly.

However, already in the subway, I was involved in the experience of visiting a new country for me! Everything was interesting, unusual to me: the citizens themselves (I was staring at the way they were dressed, how they behaved, etc. It was just like  American series “Lie to Me”)), the announcement of stations such as Kőbánya-Kispest, for example…it was a wonder! By the way, totally forgot to mention that the underground ticket I bought at the airport was an unlimited day-ticket for huge amount of money!! More precisely, the price was actually good, or rather cheap (compared, for example, with the prices of transport in Paris or London), but the numbers were frightening, because one euro equals about 300 HUF!! In currency exchange I even thought that I was “cheated” and was given 10 times more than I should have gotten))) it’s definitely the best place on the planet, ahah.

An example ( price for 1kg of bananas)

71

So I got to the station Ferenciek Tere and then I went for a walk around the city. My plan was to stroll along the embankment of the Danube while observing attractions close to the river. It is believed that diamonds (definitely not maps) are the girls’ best friends but somehow I felt responsible for all of our women’s regiment therefore I carefully and diligently studied all the squiggles Hungarian letters, schemes of buildings and roads’ turns on the way to His Highness the Danube! In fact, I did find what I was looking for, although was a bit lost at first (of course, I made it purposely only in order not to ruin the stereotype about the relationship of women and maps))).

On my way to stunning views of the river, in the anticipation that I was, I had already met interesting buildings, staff, and even a kind of a Malevich’s black square.

I really liked the building of New Budapest Gallery, which located on the Danube embankment.

7

8

To be honest, I did not quite understand where I was. I mean that I saw some art objects inside the building, but as I understood, it was not a gallery but a shop located side by side with the world of art.

10

11

Since I have that many emotions from what I saw there and I, frankly, do not know how to describe those impressions that the city made on me, so I’ll just introduce you to my little photo-exhibition titled “Walk on the waterfront” and then again I will go into the story with the light, carefully verified musical notes of “The Blue Danube” …

12

13

Liberty Bridge which is 333 m in the length and 20 m in width.

17

18

“To be or not to be?” (c) –  if it’s in Budapest – of course the answer is TO BE!! 😉

19

20

Love this balcony, looks creative!

21

22

Chain Bridge was designed by an English engineer William Tierney Clark and the constraction of the bridge was supervised by Scottish engineer Adam Clark. The bridge was shown in the movie “I Spy”.

23

24

It was very hot on the waterfront, under the scorching sun, especially in jeans and a black T-shirt that I was wearing (I know how to choose clothes for the weather)). In fact, my light summer clothes were in the suitcase in the airport). So I decided to have some rest from the heat, buy something edible in a store and have a kind of lunch in the park under the shadows of foliage. In the area I went to, I saw a monument with an inscription in Russian: «Слава Советским Героям Освободителям» (= “Glory to the Heroes of the Soviet Liberators”).

25

I liked the name of the shop – “Grey Goose”. In Russia we have a kids song that is about two geese (grey and white) that were living at granny’s place 🙂 (this is it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgo-7DjW39Y)

28

And here it is – the beauty, more precisely – The Hungarian Parliament Building! I will write about it later, in the part of my “evening cruise” (and so the curtain was opened, the secret was revealed).

Here are some lovely views of the building of the parliament and its surroundings.

27

30

31

32

29

I felt really sorry for the guys, that stood under the red-hot sun, without moving. What a hard job!

33

While strolling along the river I spotted advertising cruises on the Danube. I decided to get closer to some of the docs and inquire about the variations of cruises offered and their price. I really enjoyed reading brochures in Russian. Apparently, this job was done by Google. I don’t know – maybe German version sounds funny as well (unfortunatelly, I cannot understand what it’s saying).

26

The prices ranged from 4,000 to 13,000 forints or so (after staying in the euro environment, such figures are, of course, scared me, but a little effort of remembering the basics of mathematics and everything fell into place. Finally, I decided that an evening cruise it’s a great opportunity to see the city in the light of night with its festive appearance. Besides, I remembered how extremely happy I was on my twenty-first birthday, when celebrating it with my best friends in the evening cruise on the River Thames, with the enchanting views of the capital of Great Britain. So the decision was made, the ticket was bought and there were still a few hours left before the beginning of the cruise, so I decided to see the city in a rapid pace and in few minutes I was already sitting on the bus or tram (do not remember exactly) observing magical Budapest from the window of transport.

I felt a bit uncomfortable, considering the fact that I had no idea where I was going to, while also not speaking the language and not knowing the city at all, and I was afraid to end up in a village or something like that)) But, as I said earlier, I had a ticket for transport for the whole day and I knew that if I got lost, I could always sit on the same trucks and go in the opposite direction. At some point of my trip, I saw something that reminded (very slightly) me beloved Notre Dame Cathedral, and so I decided to get off the bus, walk a little (though the cathedral I saw was too far (talking about the appearance of it) from the Parisian one).

34

Still not sure where exactly I went to, but I also found a local market, filled with bright flavors of juicy fruits and vegetables, blending smoothly into the space with spices and other goodies and fun. Ah, I should have stayed there forever)))

35

36

And then I have to thank my own intuition. Being totally unprepared for this trip, without any plans where to go and what to see, I just saw on the map some pond and decided to move there. I found the closest to my destination underground station and went to…Hősök tere (that is how the station was called). The view impressed me from the first steps after the exit of the underground station.

37

As it turned out, I came to one of the most famous squares of the capital – the Heroes’ Square. The tall column, located in the center of the square is dedicated to the millennium of the Magyar transition through the Carpathians. There was (and still is, lets hope) the figure of the Archangel Gabriel on the globe with the apostolic cross and the crown of the King Stephen at the top of the monument.

39

According to a legend, the Archangel Gabriel came to the king in his dream and told him to convert Hungarians to Christianity. There were Prince Árpád and the seven Magyar tribes represented at the base of the column too. There were also two semi-circular colonnade which was a monument dedicated to the heroes of Hungary. There were diverse bronze sculptures of representatives of several dynasties between the columns. And The Museum of Contemporary Art with The Museum of Fine Arts were also located on the square (which I unfortunately couldn’t visit because of the lack of time I had there).

38

It was interesting to watch such actions at the Square. Perhaps this was a new interpretation of the American computer-animated film “Cars”))

40

After enjoying the views of the area, I kept walking further, deep into the wonderland! I am talking now about the city-park called Városliget (Varoshliget). As I learnt later, this park was hunting grounds long time ago, and grazing cattle…Now the area of the park is 1 km² and its territory contains about 7000 trees, and there are also several artificial lakes. According to Wikipedia (I am using very intelligent source, ahaha) there are famous Szechenyi Baths, Capital Circus, Zoo, Museum of Transport, as well as a famous restaurant in Budapest “Gundel”, which is over 150 years old located in the park Varoshliget. I vaguely trying to remember seeing anything from the list. In fact, the park is certainly very rich with its fairy-entailing views.

41

43

Lets swim with a car 🙂

42

44

46

My colleagues. Their wish to draw such a beauty is understandable.

45

Found this lovely couple…

57

and another one…

I believe one duck was asking another one to marry him)) but the second was like: “Oh, I am not sure. I need some time to think about it”)) (As you can all see I am going mad a bit).

58

47

48

50

51

53

55

52

If I had a bit more time I could probably transfrom into Alice and enjoy this wonderland in another angle…;)

54

56

I would like to add a bit more information about the mentioned above restaurant “Gundel” for fans, lovers and admirers of London (which I consider myself). Honestly, for some strange reasons, I didn’t find the restaurant I was talking about there, but after my trip to Budapest I found an interesting fact, which stated that in London’s Soho there was (and still is) a restaurant called “Gay Hussar”, whose founder (Victor Sassi) at his 17ties was sent by the British Association of hotels and restaurants for kind of training to “Gundel” in Budapest.

And my hunger led me to Varosliget Cafe & Bar 1895. The atmosphere was cozy and pretty quiet there, I sat outside as the weather was lovely (not too hot already), and it was good that during my meal, I was also able to charge my bitten apple, my American friend. I ordered the Hungarian national dish which was goulash, that perhaps was not original to do so, but the most important thing was me being full and happy after this lunch-dinner.

60 61

So, the time was going and I slowly slowly was getting to the point, more precisely to my evening cruise on His Majesty Danube. So I decided to have a little walk and then take the subway to the center, to the pier of the happiness.

On the way to the boat, that was waiting for Cinderella (me), I saw some other boats that were probably expecting other Cinderellas with their own stories and adventures.

63

64

My cruise was the average price, inexpensive at all, no frills (there wasn’t a course of meal, neither there was live music on board), but the price included a glass of booze and an audio guide in several languages (including Russian). I was very glad to hear that woman’s voice in my player (or better to say the information she was telling there). She talked about every architectural structure, monument or area we were passing, with different stories and interesting facts involved in her speech. For example, I remember well that the amount of money spent on the construction of the building of the Hungarian Parliament, was so huge that this amount would be enough to build a small town (village) for 30 000 citizens, with its infrastructure, roads, etc.! By the way, the Houses of Parliament simply mesmerizing while shimmering in the night lights.

68

70

65

66

67

At the end of our little journey there was “The Blue Danube” by Johann Strauss played in the audio-guide. For a lady like I am, who used to dance and still dancing, the music touched me because even when I’m not on the dance-floor, I mentally circling in waltz. It was such a magnificent combination of melodic music, beautiful sparkling buildings and structures on the Danube, and the fresh coolness of the Hungarian night. Those impressions I got on the cruise are still stayed with me, as if it was only yesterday.

Then I said “goodbye” (not without sadness, but with hope to visit this wonderful city again) to Budapest, went to the subway station, then by bus to the airport and didn’t have the best night of my life at the airport. The thing was that the plane I needed was going to take off in the early morning and therefore it wasn’t convenient  to go to a hotel (as in few hours I would need to go back) or somewhere else, it was easier to feel in the shoes of the hero of Tom Hanks in mister Spielberg’s  movie “The Terminal”.

02

Though I personally believe that Viktor Navorski’s conditions were much better in the film than mine in reality. Budapest Airport was really small, with rigid and cold chairs made of metal. In addition, almost all (though if I’m not mistaken, absolutely all) shops and cafes were closed at the airport for the night, and it was hard to stay positive without the comfort, evening bath and cup of tea)))

In other words, that night was a kind of nightmare, but at the same time it was a lot of fun when I was trying to sleep, lying on those metal chairs and occasionally slightly opened my eyes and saw some people sitting and swaying their bodies in the rhythm of sleep or a snoring girl somehow miraculously fitted on her suitcase. Overall, I felt that I was not alone in my sad situation and it gave me the strength I needed, and anyway I still was on cloud nine because of my expectations that were not supported and the reality surpassed all that I was preparing to see in Budapest, in the city, which name didn’t promised me some kind of magic, excitement and trepidation (as I believed before to see it)! BUT I so much loved this fantastic city!

See you soon, dear friends! I wish you marvelous discovers and that reality will always exceed your expectations! With the best wishes from the lover of life (and from now on the lover of Budapest too)!

Hello my beauties! Salut for everyone!

Last year I was glad to come up with an idea of starting my blog with a traditional countries’ greeting and the picture of it. I got some positive words from my readers and majority of people visiting my blog wrote me it was good and my blog stand out from the crowd. However, with the time I finished doing so and these days I was thinking of a new remarkable tradition to set up here…My aim was to make my posts interesting, curious but also informative, kind of educating so I decided to try a new thing: since today I am going to start each of my posts with a sapid fact about the day, something that happened on the day I am writing (but maybe few or hundred years ago). It’s not an extraordinary and unbelievable new idea (Google makes it pretty often while changing its logo in a very creative way) but I’ll try my best to make it enjoyable and informative anyway.

After searching for the “past headlines”, I found a lot of interesting things but my eyes particularly caught the news about the Dutch youngest solo sailor 16 year-old Laura Dekker, who on the 21st January 2012 completed her voyage around the world that took her exactly a year and a day. Well done, girl! Actually, I do remember reading about it a year ago but it still inspires me and I thought it would be appropriate to share it here, to remind about such a brave young traveler!

I haven’t done a voyage around the world yet but anyway I am continuing with my travelling story. Today it’s “made in Thailand” fairy tale. The plane I was flying with, closed the doors, took off in Beijing and I realized that the next station was going to be “Bangkok” (from one B to another one)). Our plane arrived in the airport called Suvarnabhumi (took me around an hour to write it down)). There was information that did surprise me which I would like to share here, with you, my dears. The name of the airport means “Golden Land” when translated from Sanskrit. Unfortunately, I wasn’t lucky enough to find some bars of gold. Perhaps, it was hidden from a watchful Siberian gaze)). The airport is located in a marshland and before the land was called “Cobra Swamp”. I was glad I did arrive to the “Golden land” instead of the previous one)).
Different sources provide diverse numbers but it’s obvious (and surprising for me) that half of the cost (or even more than that) was sponsored by Japan Bank for International Cooperation because of the need of a round-the-clock airport for foreign exporting, business, etc. Another thing about Suvarnabhumi which kind of shocked me was that the construction was delayed due to the workers seeing the ghosts in the building. Thus, in September 2005, there was a ceremony hold where 99 Buddhists monks chanted to cajole the spirits. In my opinion, it’s really mysterious.

To continue…as about me, I found the building a beautiful and creative one, also I don’t remember anything bad about it (but it happens always with me, there are no bad memories in my mind).

Bangkok…what I can say. The first thing that is coming to my mind that LOVE is all around…the King! (sorry Reg Presley for taking a bit of your magical and famous song but that’s true). Before travelling to Thailand, I was covered with the newspapers, TV-news, online-articles saying and warning about the dangerous situation and different boycotts in the capital. Fortunately, it happened that I came to Bangkok on the 5th of December, exactly on the birthday of the king Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). It’s unbelievably how much the citizens love their king. He is the world for them. I saw people crying while looking at his portraits (in Thai news) and they were tears of joy and happiness! Everything was peaceful, bright and lovely like there were no any problems at the time. The citizens gathered together in such a fantastic day – the birthday of their King! I felt lucky again while accidently arrived to Thailand exactly at this day! It illustrates that we should trust our intuition when booking a flight!))

I cannot point anything really extraordinary out about Bangkok. I suppose many people aware of smiles and friendliness of Thai people! You feel such warm while being there (and it’s not only because of the temperature +30 but because of the citizens too). As about the language – it was easier to communicate in English there than it was in Beijing but still had some problems. Also, there were a lot of Russians, plenty of them…like I didn’t leave my mother-land))) so I was kind of in Thaissia (Thailand+Russia))) Majority of the cathedrals (if not all) were closed due to the big marvelous birthday celebration) therefore I decided to visit a museum/gallery there and my choice was MOCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art). This trip, visit, cultural point on the “to do list” was absolutely wonderful and really inspirational therefore I decided to write about it separately and devote a whole post for the MOCA which I will hopefully post very soon, my lovelies! I hope you are the lovers of art or at least enjoy observing the beauty and creativity and will be interested in my next post.

Thank you for travelling with “Cinderella airways”. Always yours, Natasha from Russia. See you soon!

P.S. The photos above present couple of night Christmassy views of Bangkok and some of the interesting mannequins I found in a shopping centre there (made of small flowers or clothespins, or the one with Kremlin building instead of the head).

Next stop is…BEIJING!!!

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Today, my friends, I will tell you a fairy tale…a new one, real one, that happened with me just recently, about a month ago. Actually, it’ll be an opening for my Asian story that I promised to write about. I’ll try to tell everything briefly (don’t trust myself when I say such things)), that I won’t become like Scheherazade with her thousands stories (even though they were interesting and helped to save her life and become a happy woman).

And so…the first part of my fairy tale is dedicated to Beijing, because it was the city that opened my astonishing voyage.

Obviously, the city has a great history behind it, that makes it a bit difficult for me to write today, because omission of certain historical facts may be perceived as a lack of respect from my side. But at the same time, my blog is not unlimited and going into details of the story doesn’t fit my plans (not today, at least). Therefore , as an aperitif to our big lunch/dinner (as it’s more suitable for you) I will say that “Beijing” is composed of two Chinese characters ‘bei’ (北), which translates as ‘north’ and ‘jing’ (京), which translates as “capital”. Literal meaning of Beijing – northern capital . For us, Russians, it’s Saint-Petersburg is a nortern capital, sorry Beijing))

Beijing National Airport is the second bussiest airport in the world (after Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta ( U.S. state of Georgia)) for passenger traffic and congestion. According to the official 2006 census (I believe the statistics has not changed incredibly for the last 7 years) the most popular surname among the inhabitants of the town was the surname Wang . I don’t think it’s historical facts, that can really illustrate the power and greatness of the city, but my blog is not about that  anyway.

And now, after a short introduction, lets back to a fairyland of Cinderella. So, I arrived in Beijing. I should mention that I wasn’t alone, but with a cute lady in her early 25s)) , who I like to call “Mum”, but even though my blog is pretty personal and sincere, I still try to avoid writing much about my relatives and friends, and, consequently, as this story goes on, I will use more pronoun “I” (instead of “we”) , simply because my family – it’s personal for me, that I would like to leave unsaid , not open to the public gaze of curious, beautiful eyes. Maybe I am a bit strange but I am who I am))

The language barrier

So BEIJING … I have an impression that I am about to start writing my article for the third time today and it’s only an endless introduction going on here)))

Being such a positive person I want to start with the fly in the ointment))) to the city’s residents. And I am really sorry about it, in advance. My problem is that I was able to visit the only one attraction during those 8 hours that I was there, and I’m not a turtle, I move quickly. Especially when I have a very busy schedule I am like a meteor, but how difficult it was to navigate in Beijing, while almost nobody could speak English (though we have pretty same situation in Russia). As I jokingly (with a big exaggeration) say ” I speak English perfectly “) ) ). Anyway, I am always sure that I’ll find what I am looking for because I speak English, but it was different in Beijing…When I was asking: «Excuse me, could you please help me? Do you know how to get to the Great Wall of China?” I usually got an answer like this: “Oh tse, nishou sama uate emputo nor HuaShen chyuon na kul.” I know, it’s a bit strange that I could not understand what was said to me. I was asking myself: “How?? How does this city host the Olympic Games in 2008?” Or, perhaps, the whole world speaks Chinese, and the problem is just me. Anyway, I was amused by the situation and, according to a statement “people who laugh more live longer”, I extended the life on this trip quite a lot (while laughing), so thank you very much for the people I met in Beijing. At some point I felt like a Hoax-show’s participant  while asking the Chinese a way. They couldn’t really say anything but were showing me the direction with a hand and, just in case, after a few meters I was asking the same question and direction another local resident, and he/she was showing me the opposite direction from where I had just come. Perhaps it was funny and I must say, I did laugh. From this story I can make the following conclusions, contradictory to each other. The first one is that  my experience illustrated that knowledge of English is not a big advantage while travelling in China, therefore it’s maybe better to visit other countries or even to learn Chinese. The second conclusion is quite a contrary one. I know a lot of people who do not speak the international language at all and feel all right going abroad, using only gesture language, which means that you do not get deprived of any benefits (that English-speaking travelers have), so welcome to Beijing! Although, who knows – maybe there are only 100 people out of 20 million living there, who don’t speak English and I was lucky enough to meet this hundred)))

The Great Wall of China

My big wish was to go to the Great Wall of China in Beijing. Of course, I wouldn’t mind to  capture the EiffelTower in the same touristic plan, but apparently “nothing is impossible” doesn’t work always. What’s more, Beijing and Paris are still to be different cities) ) ) .

As I said earlier, finding that cherished wonder of the world wasn’t that easy and it is not because cherries and miracles were in shortage. No, everything was fine. However, it would be much better if only I knew Chinese language (although I think it would have provided several years of torment before, if I decided to learn this really hard language). I can imagine – Cinderella, speaking Chinese. That would be fun) )

I want to make a point here – if you are an independent tourist, you’ll better be prepared to go to the Wall, like, for instance, knowing which route to take, varieties in prices, how to get there, which part of the Wall you need, etc. I had a slightly sad experience in search of the wall as a local taxi driver himself was not sure exactly where to go and even when we came to the most coveted and popular attraction, he could not drive up to the gate, so I was offered to go there on foot. Well, thank you for this help, at least.
The walking way to the Wall also didn’t  inspire much as it was laid along kind of forest, trails, some strange terrains and the thought was no longer about getting to the miracle of China, but about how to then find a way out of this miracle and catch flight at the airport. Anyway, at some point in time, all the stress was left behind, and in front of me appeared the Great Wall of China! It was doubly beautiful, partly because of the difficulties that have been experienced earlier in the search of this miracle place.

I’ll tell you a little about the mind-blowing experience I had there. Obviously, the wall itself was stunning and powerful. But it looked even more beautiful due to the recently awakened in the morning, nature, and slightly enveloping the landscape misty haze. It was magical! It became even more powerful while adding the feeling that you “touch”  the ancient, cherished, world-famous miracle. It was too much written, said, shown about it, and now you are a piece of history, past and present, now and then. It is unbelievable!

And some facts:
– The Great Wall of China was built about 2000 years ago in order to protect the land (particularly agriculture) from enemies as well as a barrier to local residents’s movement from the empire;
– there were over 1 000 000 people (prisoners peasants, soldiers) who attended the building process of  the wall’s structure. About 1,000 of those people were killed during the construction of buildings;
– Earlier this wonder of the world referred to as “The Ten-Thousand-Li-Long Wall” that referred to the structure’s length (1 Li = 500 m);
– Today the Wall divided into 4 sections: Badaling, Mutianyu, Simatai and Juyongguan.
I was lucky to visit  the part called Badaling (as it was planned). It is believed the area is good for tourists named Natasha (or Cinderella), who arrived from Siberia and who also loves ballroom dancing … (kidding, of course).

Of course, I was struck by its beauty (the wall I mean), majesty and length, as well as … curvature. The thing is that the stage which tourists used for descending from the wall were really crooked, angled, somewhere even erased. Thus, the parting with the object of great beauty was a bit complicated (maybe it’s a special trick by the Chinese sages that prevents tourists from leaving this popular place. The photo above proves my words, where you can see a girl sloping down the stairs and as her feet bent. Imagine how I risked my life, when taking a photo during the descent. It’s all for the blog and my loveliest readers!))

I also noticed that many bricks of the wall, were inscribed with some characters, words, signs. Alas, I did not have free time for leaving my own ” footprint” in the form of an inscription “Cinderella of Westminster was here “))

In general, the impressions of the seen were incredibly awesome! This is a must see and for sure it’s better to experience yourself than to read many times from different sources.

The way back, from the wall’s part called “Badaling” to the city, took about an hour, maybe a bit more. I cannot say exactly now, but I know that it was not as short as I would like it to be (especially when you can spend less than a day in the city and each second becomes priceless). By the way, this touristic attraction (meaning the wall) has its own bus station and you can easily reach the city from there, at the same time you buy a ticket on the bus, which, in my opinion, is very convenient.

Another important point of “I love Beijing” programme was tasting Beijing duck, but, alas, when there are scales appered in front of my eyes, where there is a world-famous dish (duck) on one half, and on the other one is a flight (in addition with Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong), the second option outweighed and the duck remained live… ( I want to believe so ) ). Thus, the airline saved an innocent soul!

Also, on the way to the airport, I was able to taste a fruit skewers (unfortunately, I have no idea how it’s called there, in Beijing) . The dessert was consist of some pieces of kiwi and sour red apples (probably local harvest), caramelized, skewered on a wooden stick (the photo above). I would advice to try it! (Of course, if you don’t have that difficult choice between the food and an aircraft) ) ) .

In conclusion, I would like to say that I, personally, didn’t like Beijing as much as I liked other cities that I visited in December 2013, but I can convince that it is wrong to judge a city (or even a country) by only 8 hours spent there (4 hours of which were spent on transportation anyway). I should also consider how tired I was after a long flight when arrived to China. Anyway, sincerely apologize to Beijing and people who love the city ! In my case it happened this way…

I may sound a bit sad and pessimistic but it’s not like that! I am still to be very happy and will then provide some colourful and lovely posts here! See you soon, dear readers!

Once upon a time in Omsk airport

Hello my dear readers!

Today I want to tell you a funny story I experienced this night. It can be read by children, no worries)) I behave well, at least in the blog I write.

Ok, it happened that my mum was flying from Moscow to Omsk (where I am situated now) and it was very inconvenient time, around 5am which is too bad for waking up and making some fun, but hey…it’s always a good time to make fun, no matter when!:)

So…me and my family decided to make a surprise for her, meeting at the airport while she didn’t expect us to do so and I also printed a poster with her “kind of nickname” which doesn’t make sense at all and it’s really funny (I believe people who read it there were thinking “who is this person with such a name??” Anyway, when we came to the airport we realised there were few cameras from different TV channels. I thought that the information about me visiting the place spread out. However, it’s strange and hard to believe but those cameras were waiting not for me and not even for my mother!

My excitement was increasing with every second being there and I should say we stayed in the waiting area for quite a while, trying to guess who is this celebrity coming over. Also, I was blaming myself for not wearing the best dress I had and make up, not going to a stylist to make my hair done…And why I did not do it at 5am))) next time I will be ready for the show because the show must go on! 🙂

We met my mum, she actually passed me not realising I was her daughter (always knew that Moscow influences on people and changes them a lot and my lovely mother was not an exception, ahah – just kidding, I know a lot of loveliest people from the capital of Russia). So we did make this surprise all together and left the airport without understanding who was the “star” (apart from me, of course)).

And after some hours I watched the news and saw my pretty face (pretty because it was 5am, no make-up, not enough sleep, I would call it “the real beauty”)).  If the link works in other countries, you can see me here (GTRK-OMSK) http://gtrk-omsk.ru/news/detail.php?IBLOCK_ID=3&ID=127869&SECTION_ID=9 (right at the beginning of the report, in the white long jacket) 17 seconds of fame))). By the way, the journalists there were meeting Alexander Shlemenko (Storm) who is currently fighting in the Middleweight (Mixed Martial Arts) and is ranked as №8 middleweight in the world by Fight!Magazine. He was flying from the USA where he knocked Doug Marshall several days ago. I never thought I would write such information on my blog but as people say “pigs might fly”.

To be honest, I am not a fan of such a sport but it was good to get this knowledge and to be on TV looking like a zombie)) In addition to that, if I had more time for the preparation I would do a flashmob for my mum (we were thinking about making it real!). I can imagine how funny it would be….everyone is meeting this champion and I am dancing for my mother)).

What I wanted to say with this post? That even when I am extremely exhausted, dreaming about my bed, looking awful, I still enjoy my life, smiling and enjoying all the happenings around and I always see a miracle in small things. It was an ordinary meeting at the airport but somehow became a story to tell))

Wish you lots of of lovely surprises and interesting meetings, my dear readers!

While waiting for the flight

مرحبا يا عزيزي القارئ!

It’s again me, again from cold but lovely Russia. However, my greeting looks a bit unusual today because on the 7th of April my post is going to have an Arabic flavor and it’s going to be about a problem that was solved incredibly well by the largest airline in the Middle East (which one you will know soon. I hope you didn’t look at the picture above)).

It was such a gorgeous day on the 16th of March when me and my family were about to leave India and enter Emirates (give you a clue – the name of the airline is hidden (hidden very well)) in the sentence). Our flight from Trivandrum to Dubai airport supposed to be around 12am (I am glad this time doesn’t affect Cinderella at all, so I could be relaxed)). We had a very funny check-in because my family doesn’t speak English and 2 weeks spending in India wasn’t enough for learning the language. Well, at least my grandparents knew “Hello” and “Thank you” that was very helpful)). While we were going through a metal detector I heard “Natasha, what do they want from me?? Translate it please!” from my dad, my mom, my grandparents. I wouldn’t be surprised if strangers would ask me to translate something for them, because I felt that everyone wanted me to help them. I didn’t know where to go…It was hilarious because my grandma put a scissors in her hand-bag (of course, it’s the most important thing to have while being on a plain)), anyway we should all forgive her because she is 77 years old). My mom had some strange locks in her hand-bag (not surprisingly as she is a daughter of my grandma)) and my dad simply forgot to take his mobile from a cage and afterwards, staff didn’t believe it was his phone, so we had to prove it. I had so much fun knowing that it was my family. I hope the airport’s staff will remember us!))

After all we were relieved – sitting in the airport, waiting for the flight and dreaming about Dubai! Our boarding time came insensibly (after 2 hours delayed)) and we started to enter a jet bridge (it’s good I have this opportunity to learn new words while writing the blog. Of course, I meant the preposition “our”, which I wasn’t aware of before))). Anyway, we had to stop our journey through the wonderful and mysterious jet way. We waited for some minutes and finally returned to the gate. It was the shortest journey I have ever had)).

I should also add that while we were waiting for the delayed flight we were provided with some beverages and snacks which was so kind of Emirates-company. (By “We” I mean not only me and my family (even though we were special people from Economy class))), but all the passengers!)

However, later on the airlines announced that the flight was delayed for 12 hours more and we could fly only at 2 30am! Now you may think that we were all shocked and disappointed! Why didn’t we fly with a bird)), but then we wouldn’t have a TV to watch and some food to eat during the flight)). And now, the main point of my post today – how Emirates handled the situation. All the passengers (even my grandma, already without her scissors, now everyone should be sorry for her)) were provided with transport and absolutely lovely hotels! Indian dinner was included as well. To be honest, we enjoyed the hotel very much. Well, it was a bit sad that we missed a day in Dubai(( as I really wanted to spend more time there, but on the other side – nothing can be better than a company that does take care of it’s clients and can show this great respect to everyone. And even it wasn’t a fault of the company (as far as I know it happened due to the weather conditions and as the weather couldn’t give us accommodation, Emirates-airlines did so)).

I believe that nothing happens in life accidently and it does occur for some reasons. Why did we spend a day more in Thiruvananthapuram (the city where the airport is based) when we could’ve enjoyed such a modern and extraordinary Dubai? I think we needed to say a proper “good bye” to India (or better “see you soon”), we needed to see how foreign company (such as Emirates) can prove that “A problem is a hidden luck” (“12 friends of Oshen”, movie).

I hope, my dears, you won’t have any problems on your way, but even if you do – just think that it’s your luck and it will be!
